Acadia University, founded in 1838, is a public liberal education university that offers a personalized educational experience in a tight-knit community where everyone has a chance to shine. Acadia’s dedication to liberal education means that students in all programs can mix and match their courses, minors, and majors to create a degree that reflects their academic interests. The small size of Acadia, with a student population of approximately 3,700 students located in the Town of Wolfville with a population of approximately 5,000, means students will live in a safe community where all amenities are within close proximity. In terms of research, Acadia’s primarily undergraduate nature means that students have the chance to get research and teaching assistant experience at the undergraduate level.

Acadia University offers 30 major and 200+ degree options that students can explore, with a list of current programs available here. Moreover, most of Acadia’s programs can be combined with a Co-op option, so that students can combine their academic study with paid, discipline-related work terms.

Three popular programs among international students include:

  • Environmental & Sustainability Studies (ESST): Available either as a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Community Development, the ESST program combines theoretical knowledge with experiential learning in the local community. Acadia’s rural setting next to the agriculturally rich Annapolis Valley and tidally active Minas Basin makes it a prime location for students to learn about sustainability and the environment.
  • Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA): Acadia University’s F.C. Manning School of Business Administration offers a general Bachelor of Business Administration or students can specialize in one of the majors unique to the School of Business: Accounting, Business Technology Management, Employment Relations, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Finance, or Marketing.
  • Bachelor of Computer Science/Bachelor of Applied Computer Science: Acadia University’s Jodrey School of Computer Science offers a Bachelor of Computer Science that covers such topics as computational theory, application development skills, and systems analysis.   • International students are guaranteed a spot in one of our eleven residence buildings for the entire duration of their studies as a full-time student.
  • The Wong International Centre, located on campus across from the Vaughan Memorial Library, is a space dedicated to international students to build community and also is where Acadia’s international student support staff can be found.  
  • Student’s who register ahead of time can access Acadia’s free airport pickup service from the Halifax International Airport to bring them to campus.
  • An International Student Orientation occurs at the beginning of the Fall semester to help international students in their first days at Acadia.
