Founded in 1642, Montreal, Quebec is where French and English-speaking Canada meet and mix, and 2017 marks the 375th anniversary of this historic city.
There aren’t many places in North America like Montreal. The city is European in many ways, sharing a love of food, coffee, and a more relaxed pace of life. The island city is home to hundreds of parks, including 20 large enough to get lost in.
The learning doesn’t stop with English or French classes. Montreal has almost as many museums as cafés, where everyone can find something to interest them. Fans of bones will love the Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton at Redpath Museum and if you like art, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Contemporary Art Museum are perfect choices.
Number 2: Festivals all summer long
Other Canadian cities are starting to compete but Montreal is still the summer festival capital of Canada. There’s a festival for everyone and free outdoor activities for anyone who prefers to enjoy the sun and the crowds.
Summer in Montreal is measured by the three big festivals. You know summer has started when fast cars are in town for the F1 Grand Prix. Next up is the International Jazz Fest of Montreal. The Jazz Fest is a student favourite because of all the free outdoor concerts (and street food!). In July Montreal becomes the funniest city in the world with the Just for Laughs festival.
Junior Camps in Montreal also organize activities every day and students are sure to run into a street festival or a food truck while exploring Parc Jean-Drapeau or Le Plateau with classmates.

The summer can be a busy time, especially with the activities available to students during a Montreal summer. It’s important to take some time to relax, and there’s no better place to rest than a Montreal terrace.
Montrealers are expects at spending time outside in summertime. That’s why almost every restaurant and café will have tables and chairs outside on the street and sidewalk. These patios are the perfect place to practice English or French with a waiter and probably the most fun someone can have practicing a new language.
